Menai Strait Lobster, Gyotaku Printed and Wet Mounted.This lobster was caught in a pot by a local fisherman here in North Wales. It was caught in the Menai Strait. The lobster is such a great subject for a coastal artist like myself. Working with local marine species is always my preferred way of working. Lobster are a challenge to print as they are so 3 dimensional. Its very tricky printing the legs and their antenna. This lobster is printed on Chinese mulberry paper measuring 69. 5x34cm. They are such a feature of our local marine life that I always wanted to record them

I could see the details of the fish but struggled to get them to show up

So the second stage is to make the print nice and flat so it will sit well in a frame

These shells come from an oyster farm about 7 miles from my studio

each fish is printed individually so this is actually 5 individual prints on the same sheet of paper
