Cloudy thoughts rested as snow on the countryside, and for a brief time, the farm and its companion were bound by an unseen thread spanning decades. Midday sun ablaze—

A Short-eared Owl appeared against the backdrop of the fence line

In autumn's embrace

undisturbed except by the occasional verso ripple of the pulling tide

I caught movement on the periphery of my view

I marveled at the quality of light

Caribou bull stands—

It was the day of the solar eclipse and I was hopeful the Short-eared Owls would hunt in the diminishing light

with its mottled feathers blending seamlessly with the earthy tones of fall

and higher works to freeze motion
