Menai Strait, Line Caught Sea Bass Gyotaku Printed and Wet Mounted.This bass was caught on a line by a local fisherman here in North Wales. It was caught on the Menai Stait. Bass are my favourite fish to print the definition you get on the scales is wonderful. This bass is printed on Chinese mulberry paper measuring 69. 5x34cm. Printing is just the first part of the process. After printing, the paper is cockled and wouldnt lay flat in a frame. To achieve a flat print I use the traditional wet mounting process that

I picked up various shells

They are particularly tied to the Island of Anglesey as they have their own biscuit here

all 5 are taken from original Gyotaku Prints

This process flattens the print back out so it is suitable for framing

It will be wrapped in acid free tissue paper and sent in a poster tube ready for framing and mounting

These lobsters are both printed from the same lobster on Thai mulberry paper measuring 76x51cm

It was then wet mounted a second time

Sardines make a lovely print

I also supply a certificate with every print

Like a lobster it's much more 3 dimensional than a fish so there is a lot of work to do making sure things don't slip and slide around

This uses a simple flour and water paste to bond the print to a backing paper and requires a period of around 24 hours to dry and stretch
